QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Question # 1.   How do I register my dogs with the American Dog Breeders Association?

  • To register a dog, a single dog registration application needs to be completed.  The registration certificate from a recognized registry showing proof of ownership along with a complete three generation pedigree is required.  In addition two photos of the dog needs to be included with the application.

Question # 2.   How will my dogs ADBA registration affect its registration with another registry?

  • This will be an additional or duel registration.  One does not cancel out the other.  For many years American Pit Bull Terrier breeders have had duel registered dogs that when bred, could register litters in both registries and enter show events with both registries.  A duel registered dog is more marketable and adds value to the dog.

Question # 3.   What about my show or performance titles that I have earned on my dog.  Will they be indicated on my ADBA paperwork?

  • With our updated computer program, a dogs earned titles can now be indicated on the dog’s pedigree regardless of where the title was earned.  The title will indicate what the title is and where it was
    earned.

Question # 4. Will it be possible to have a photo of my dog on the paperwork?

  • Yes, when you send in a photo for registration, it will be used on the paperwork.  A clear, sharp color photo works best.

Question # 5. What about my dogs DNA profile that was done on my dog with another registry?

  • DNA profiles done thru the AKC, UKC or VetGen are accepted as they have all  been profiled by the DNA testing laboratory that we are currently using which is MMI Genomics formerly know as PE Agen.  Copies of your dogs DNA profile can be submitted with the single dog registration application with an additional fee of $5.00.  The DNA profile is entered in the data base as part of your dogs record, and the symbol (^) for DNA profiled will appear in front of your dogs name on all pedigrees where your dog is
    listed.

Question # 6. What breeds are you allowing to be registered?

  • All recognized breeds that are currently registered with an established registry.  If you have a rare breed that you question could or could not be accepted, please call Patty, our office manager @ 801-936-7513 and she will clarify our requirements for you.

Question # 7. Do you have a way to advertise my ADBA litters and stud dogs with your organization?

  • This service will be available in the near future for our website. Many breed clubs have a breeder’s referral service in their local areas.  Referrals are made daily to local clubs to interested individuals from the ADBA offices.

Question # 8. Will you offer registration of my kennel name?

  • We register kennel names for the one time fee of $200.00.  This gives a breeder exclusive rights to use their unique kennel name in the registration of their dogs, and in advertising.

Question # 9. What can we expect from the American Dog Breeders Association as an All Breed Registry?

  • Fast, cost effective, courteous service in the registration of single dogs, litters, transfers of ownerships, and pedigree research.
  • Accuracy of registration and pedigrees 100% guaranteed.
  • Confidential records, with verification of all signatures or verification of breedings.
  • Attractive certificates and pedigrees
  • DNA profiling and parentage verification services
  • A portion of the fees paid on litters and single dog registrations to fight for dog owners and breeders rights

Question # 10: Will you provide dog shows or other events for our dogs.

  • At the current time, American Pit Bull Terrier Clubs are hosting ADBSI sanctioned shows and weight pulling events nationwide.   We are interested in sanctioning other breed clubs and in sponsoring their breed shows and events.  We will work with clubs and breeders to formulate rules and guidelines for shows and events that will be in the best interest of the different breeds.  The ADBA believes in the development and education of breeder judges at all sanctioned events.  We feel that individuals with experience in a particular breed will serve that breed best in judging shows and performance events.  An ongoing educational program will be offered to long standing fanciers of highest reputation in the development of the skills necessary to be ADBA sanctioned judges.
